A letter to yahoo
Dear Yahoo,
I have been using your small business - online merchant solution for the past 3 hours. During this time I have not closed my browser once or been away from the computer for more than 5 minutes. And yet for some reason you feel that it is necessary to ask me to re-enter my yahoo password nearly every time I change pages. I assure you that there is absolutely no need to do this. I understand that you take security seriously but this is out of hand. In fact, all you are doing is ruining my user experience and pissing me off.
I have tried to come up with a scenario that justifies such excessive security. Here is my best guess. Your brain trust must be worried that a robber will break into my apt while I am using your service, club me over the head and then have complete access to my online store (with my customers’ private data). Now, I’m not a math ninja but I would be that the probability of this ever happening has got to minuscule.
So please, try and do a better job balancing security with user experience. Poor user experience will lead to fewer customers. And, security means nothing without customers to protect.
Your friend,
Jeremy
